Bio - Ben Chan
Ben Chan, MD, MPH, MPA

Dr. Ben Chan is the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Health Quality Council. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Chan was the CEO of the Health Quality Council (HQC) in Saskatchewan. During his tenure there, Dr. Chan's organization conducted public reporting on a broad basket of quality indicators and implemented quality improvement programs aimed at improving chronic disease management; reducing waiting times in cancer care, emergency departments and family practice; preventing adverse events in ICUs; and improving drug management in seniors. In 2006, the HQC received the Saskatchewan Health Excellence Award for its pioneering work, and Dr. Chan was named Canada's Outstanding Young Health Executive by the Canadian College of Health Service Executives, and Distinguished Alumnus of the Year by Victoria College, University of Toronto.
Dr. Chan is a former Senior Scientist with the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES) in Toronto, and has authored over 50 publications on health human resource planning, physician practice patterns and primary care. He has worked as a locum family doctor and emergency department physician in 70 rural communities and 8 provinces and territories across Canada. He received his BSc and MD from the University of Toronto, where he was awarded the Moss Scholarship, the university's highest undergraduate award. He also holds a Master of Public Health from Harvard and Master of Public Affairs from Princeton.
